BAK KUT TEH - RESTAURANT SEM KIM

My husband worked late again and he called me for supper (but his dinner) while I was still sleeping...........about 1.00 am. I was very sleepy and not hungry at all but my husband is a very busy person and I want to spend more time with him alone, so I don't mind dark circle around my eyes the next day.

We went to this BKT restaurant in Jalan Ipoh called 'Restoran Sem Kim'. Actually this restaurant has been around for many years. I still remember my Dad brought us here for BKT when all of us were still children. Those days this BKT restaurant was called Kim Seng and was run by the elder brother. But when the elder brother passed away, the younger brother took over.

You see the cross on the wall, this restaurant owner is a Christian and this restaurant is opened from 5.00pm to 6.00am everyday, even on Chinese New Year.
Here are what we order, as usual the ribs, intestines in one pot and served with others like coriander leaves, yu char kuih, taufu pok, fu chuk and the dark colour one is fried shallots and finely chopped chai poh that you mix with rice. You can order a bowl of pig's stomach in pepper soup and they have Vegetables with Oyster Sauce as side order.

If you like the dark and thick kind of Bak Kut Teh, this is not the place. As my husband likes the BKT soup lighter and milder with coriander leaves sprinkled in the soup, he finds the meal satisfying. As for me, I like both.........light or strong.
