December Part 2

I attended three weddings this month.
First one was in KL Tower Banquet Hall. We were given stickers to stick on our clothes so to entitle for free ride up the tower.
The picture of the newly wed is pasted on the drinking bottle.....something different!

The banquet hall has many pillars due to its shape. There was one in front of me and i was not able to see whats going on the stage.

Crispy Fried Chicken is very tasty.
This is dessert : Ice-creamThe halal wedding food served in this KL Tower was surprisingly good and delicious.

Second wedding was in Bankers' Club in Amoda Building, KL.
Blue cup cakes were served at the reception area.

Part of the 8 course wedding meals :
The halal wedding food was equally good and delicious.

The third wedding was in Taiping : Soon Lee Seafood Restaurant , opposite the Champagne Hotel. I am not going the write much about the food as most wedding meals are almost the same.

But how could one not eating at the local hawkers' fare when you are in Taiping. We went to Kedai Kopi Bai Leng, near the Lake Garden.

Fried Kueh Teow, hubby asked for 'kah liu' (add extra prawn/cockles), got wok hei but a bit oily.
Pie Tee, some may find it bland but I think it is very tasty. As I grow older, i tend to avoid food that are to rich ( such as too creamy coconut milk, too spicy etc)
Seafood Noodles, hubby asked for 'kah liu'. I think it is tasty but hubby said not nice. I think because of the 'kansui' from the yellow noodles. Hubby doesn't eat meehoon and I don't really like the yellow mee so we finished the seafood and left the yellow noodles behind.
Dried Wantan Mee, i ordered this becos I saw a lot of people ordered. I like the Char Siew, not the red or orange colored type but a bit dry. The noodles was tasty.

Before we go back to KL, we went to this coffeeshop called Rex Ais Kacang dan Minuman, located behing Mc Donald in Taiping.
I still prefer the original popiah, lots of vegetables and abit wet. I don't like the KL popiah, dry, too much sweet sauce and lots of crunchy stuff.
Actually, the reason we came to this coffeshop is for the Rojak. I like the rojak sauce, not too sweet and belachan bits in the sauce make this rojak very aromatic ( if u like belachan).

The Assam Laksa does not look appetising, but it is very tasty. The soup is the clear type and there are some fish chunk in the soup.
I ordered a bowl and Ching Tang, Clear Soup Noodles. I like the home made fried onion on top, not the usual factory mass produced type of fried onion, have been hearing a lot of scary story about the way they fried the onion ( dropping the plastic bag in the oil to make it crunchy!!).
Taiping is a very nice, quaint little town. The food is still cheap. The noodles are still below RM3 per bowl. I like the old trees along the Taiping Lake, very serene and peaceful.

December Part 1

I am very busy during school holidays because I have to prepare my children's meals, take them 'jalan-jalan' and spend time with them. Luckily my working hours are flexible. There are some places we go and I would like to highlight a few here.

Outing No 1: Visiting to Sg Klah Hot Spring in Sungkai, Perak. I bring my Mom along together with my two boys. First , must look for food in Sungkai town.......we eat lunch at this Choy Kee Restaurant in Sungkai, famous for its Steamed River Fish and Stew Pork Leg. It is so yummy that my Mom finish the whole porky dish. The price is reasonable.

After lunch, we proceed to the Sg Klah Hot Spring:

The egg boiling section:
There are many section of hot spring ie family spa, foot massage and there is a swimming pool on the other side.
Choy Kee Restaurant is located in Sungkai town (turn right after coming out from toll plaza) and to go Hot Spring, turn left after coming out from toll plaza, then follow the signboard, you won't miss it.
Outing No.2:
We went a few shopping malls and one of them is Midvalley. I like to do my shopping in Midvalley as one can find almost everything there unless u want to buy some high end branded goods. There are Carrfour, Jusco, Metro, MNG, Elle. There are many variety of food, cinema, bowling alley, pet shop, cafe, fastfood, ice-cream etc etc. We go there to see movie ( oops, I forgot what movie we watched) and we eat at the food court.

Christmas Decoration:
Kevin's tempura bento from the food court at the cinema level:
Sean's Grilled Salmon bento:
I eat Korean Beef Bibimpa which taste bad, it is too sweet for me but my sons have no complain about their food.

HAKKA ABACUS SEED 客家算盘子

This is my second time making this dish. The first time was about 20 years ago and I learned this from my sister Annie's cookbook. It is quite simple dish to make but time consuming as the seeds have to be rolled one by one manually. Just steam a yam, mash it and mix with tapioca flour and knead into a nice dough easy to roll. Then press a little in the centre to make a shape of a coin and boil it.

I add a lot of ingredients to fry ie. pork meat (mui yoke), dried mushroom, dried shrimp, woodear mushroom, dried shreded sotong, chopped chili, spring onion and chinese celery.

I fried Tanghoon too.

Stir fry Kangkung for the extra fibre required!
P/s : Annie , thank you for your cookbook. When U come bac this coming July. I definitely will cook the Hakka Abacus Seed for u....ok!

Mom's Steamboat Meal

My brother came back to KL over a weekend and Mom cooked steamboat for all of us. Mom cooked steamboat as everyone is on low carb diet except the children of course. And another reason is steamboat is easier to prepare.

Mom used chicken bones and carrot to cook the soup.
No.1 must for low carb is vegetables.
The prawn is so fresh. It is so yummy and crunchy if u don't overcook them.
Chicken thigh meat, makes the soup so tasty. It is tastier than breast meat.
Fish ball from the wet market....children's favourite.
More seafood.....fish, cuttlefish!! Mom used ' Ma Yau' fish.
Fish Maw, Dad's favourite.
Other side dishes like egg and rice noodles make this a wholesome meal. Mom made her own dipping chili sauce too. This is what I like about home cook steamboat , you just prepare what you like fresh and quality food instead of just mass produce fish ball. Annie and Lucy if you gals are reading this blog.....keep drooooling!
