This is my second time making this dish. The first time was about 20 years ago and I learned this from my sister Annie's cookbook. It is quite simple dish to make but time consuming as the seeds have to be rolled one by one manually. Just steam a yam, mash it and mix with tapioca flour and knead into a nice dough easy to roll. Then press a little in the centre to make a shape of a coin and boil it.
I add a lot of ingredients to fry ie. pork meat (mui yoke), dried mushroom, dried shrimp, woodear mushroom, dried shreded sotong, chopped chili, spring onion and chinese celery.

Mom's Steamboat Meal
My brother came back to KL over a weekend and Mom cooked steamboat for all of us. Mom cooked steamboat as everyone is on low carb diet except the children of course. And another reason is steamboat is easier to prepare.
Mom used chicken bones and carrot to cook the soup.

The prawn is so fresh. It is so yummy and crunchy if u don't overcook them.
Chicken thigh meat, makes the soup so tasty. It is tastier than breast meat.
Fish ball from the wet market....children's favourite.
More seafood.....fish, cuttlefish!! Mom used ' Ma Yau' fish.
Fish Maw, Dad's favourite.
Other side dishes like egg and rice noodles make this a wholesome meal. Mom made her own dipping chili sauce too. This is what I like about home cook steamboat , you just prepare what you like fresh and quality food instead of just mass produce fish ball. Annie and Lucy if you gals are reading this blog.....keep drooooling!
