SETAPAK TEOCHEW RESTAURANT- JALAN PAHANG,KL

Setapak Teochew Restaurant has been around for very long long long time. I remember my Mum used to take me there to buy the Teochew Mooncake during Mid-Autumn Festival when I was still a little girl......about 30 years ago! Last time they were located a few blocks away from this current place.

Very cute teapot!They are famous for their own made noodles ( no kan sui ). Fried white meehoon, steamed pomfret with meehoon, fishball soup, porridge, fried lo bak and spring roll......etc. As this time only me and hubby eating, we just ordered Fried Hokkien Mee and Fishball soup.


They sell some traditional Chinese biscuits.
We bought some. I believe they get these from other suppliers. The only thing they make is Mooncake.Overall this is a good restaurant as the place is cosy and the price is reasonable.

Restaurant Tien Pin - Desa Aman Puri, Kepong

It was about 3pm, we decided to go for some food. After fetching a friend in Kepong we went to this newly opened Restaurant Tien Pin in Aman Puri, located next to King's confectionery, and opposite of Oldtown Cafe. This restaurant specialise in Fish Balls, Mee Pok and Tong Shui.

The decor is cosy, clean and simple.





My friend ordered Tau Fu Fa, served cold, very smooth and refreshing. The syrup was cooked with ginger instead of Pandan leaf.


Yam cake and Fish Balls............our favourite food. The fishballs if I am not wrong is made of Tau Fu Fish (in cantonnese) instead of Ikan Parang or Tenggiri. The texture is very springy but not overly springy like some artificially mass produce fishballs. Most importantly, the fishballs are fresh. The lady boss said they do not keep the fishballs overnite , either they throw away or give away to old folks home for charity.

This is the name card and they have another shop in PJ. We will definitely come back again. The price is reasonable and the food is good.

新至尊-Rawang

This restaurant is located before Rawang main town, after Lan Je Fei Chow Yu if you are coming from KL. It is next to Maybank and opposite Public Bank, along the main road. This place was recommended by a friend who owns hypermarket in Rawang. We like to eat here because it is near my house and the food is quite special.

My family likes to eat this Stir-fry spinach with egg white, very smooth and soft.

Our favourite Indonesian Curry Prawn........we asked them to deshelled the prawn.

This is Fried Frog (田鸡）. The top is covered with fried ginger. My boys love this.

They have many other special dishes as recommended by the lady boss but as I have to consider my children tastebud so we did not order. Be prepare to wait, the food comes out slow. Our bill came out about RM108 inclusive of 4 plates of rice, tea for four and 3 cans of coke.

Restaurant Heong Kee Seafood @ Selayang Jaya

On the night the petrol price increased , I drove to two petrol stations around my house about 7pm but failed to pump any petrol as the petrol stations were full of long stretch of cars. I went back home to wait for Hubby to come bac for dinner. And that night I think the whole KL was in massive jam as everyone wanted to pump petrol and we were stuck in the jam and by the time we had our dinner it was about 9.40pm and that was the nearest restaurant we went to.


This Restaurant Heong Kee serves normal food like Curry Fish, Steam Lala, Pork Ribs, Steam Egg etc etc normal dishes.


Steamed La la , my sons favourite. I find it quite oily but the sauce is tasty and the Lala is fresh.
We ordered Curry Fish Meat as no one in the family know how to eat Fish Head. The curry goes well with rice.

I like to eat Pork Ribs especially marinated with preserved bean curd. Some restaurant make it very sweeet but this one is nice not too sweet.
Stir fried french beans with dried shrimp, very crunchy and fresh.
We were so hungry that we finished evrything within seconds!!
Restaurant Heong Kee in Selayang Jaya is an average restaurant for a decent meals. We will come back.

Kaki Bukit @ Perlis - Part 2

We decided to go to Alor Setar for tea break and we spotted this funny signboard of a place called "Kota Sarang Semut"........must be lots of ants there, just like Pulau Tikus....lots of rats!! Hahaha!

As we were approaching Kedah, we saw endless rice field.......its beautiful!

We were not familliar with Alor Setar, so we just went to any food stall that was along the way. This hawker center we ate is opposite the Alor Setar Mall. There were only few stalls opened and some stalls were only opened at night.

This Tau Sar Pao was delicious. The bun was not the sticky type which superfined flour was used and when u eat, it sticks between your teeth.

Hubby was surorised that a bowl of mee is still selling at RM2.50/RM3.00 per bowl whereas KL already selling at RM3.80/RM4.00.

It tooks us about 1 1/2 hour to reach Kaki Bukit from Alor Setar. The trunk road was narrow and difficult to overtake car and finally after 1.45hrs we have reached Kaki Bukit.

Hubby started his work immediately upon reaching Kaki Bukit but his friend's mother invited us for lunch. I didn't take picture as I think its rude thing to do being first time to people's house. But the food was delicious...Hakka Food. I was surprised Kaki Bukit consists mostly Hakka people as I thought Penang, Kedah, Perlis have lots of Hokkien.

It took hubby about 2hrs to finish his work and his friend took us to this coffeshop famous for its Char Siew Pao and all sorts of Paos like Da Pao, Kaya Pao, Red Bean Pao and Lo Mai Kai. My friend's mother ordered the Pao a day ealier as its selling fast. I was surprised in this isolated place, people would drive all the way here just for Pao.....!

I tried a few types of Pao, I think the best is still the Char Siew Pao, the Pao texture was not the sticky type ( abit yellowish skin) and the meat inside was chewy and not too sweet. Best!

The Coffeeshop is located next to the MCA Kaki Bukit Branch.

Next, we went to the famous Gua Gelam, it is about 5 minutes drive from the Coffeeshop.

Inside the caves, there are light and safe walkway for tourists to explore. Good thing is there is no bat's smell and the air is cooling.

There was a small river or stream outside the cave. Water was clear and the place was shady.

Next, our friend took us to Padang Besar for shopping, it is about 15minutes drive from Kaki Bukit. According to my friend , Hatyai is about 40minutes away by car. Inside the complex there is a bazaar selling all kind of thing like clothes, kitchen pots and pans ( the famous Zebra brand), fruits , cashew nuts etc. One needs to bargain when shops here , at least 50-60% off what they offer.

After all the work and walking around in Kaki Bukit, we left there about 5.30pm and planned to go to Taiping to meet up with some friends but we were too damn tired and pull over to Bagan Luar, Butterworth to have a nice sleep. We stayed in this Butterworth Travelodge, too tired to go over to Penang. Room is ok ...RM110 per nite for double.
Next morning we went to the market behind the Bagan Luar Police station for breakfast. The Iced Black Coffee (Kopi O Ping) was still selling at RM0.90.

Mee Jawa RM2.40 sooo... cheap but taste ok only.

Nasi Lemak bungkus RM0.60 soooooooooo.......cheap and delicious, so much ikan bilis on top. Hubby loves this.

I craved for the Kueh Teow Tng (RM2.50) even before we came here I told my husband I must eat the Kueh Teow Tng in Penang, The taste in KL is different. But my Penang cousins always tease me that they only eat Kueh Teow Tng when they are sick!

This is Fried Kuah Kak again so cheap RM1.90 and so tasty, This Uncle has been frying Kueh Kak for about 20 years or more.We left Butterworth about 10.30am and stopped over in Ipoh Old Town again for food. We reached Ipoh about 12.30pm , lunch time. We did not go the famous Old Town White Coffee because we could not get any parking so we ate at this place , sorry I forgot the shop name but I know they supply curry mee paste to Hong Kong, very famous one! I ordered the Curry Mee and Hubby ordered Har Mee.

We had a satifying meal here before continued our journey home.
